A few tips on how to recognize fraud and safely use our portal motorBOOM.me

Recently, there has been an increase in reports of abuse by fake “customers” - scammers, whose sole aim is to obtain information about your credit or debit bank card.

An example of the scam below:

Specifically, users receive messages - most often via Viber/WhatsApp from foreign numbers, in which allegedly interested “buyers” ask about the item you are selling, the possibility of delivery, and so on.

Up to this point everything looks normal, and the only things that might suggest fraud are the foreign numbers from which such messages are sent, as well as poor knowledge of our language.

After these initial “customer” messages, the scammer sends a link to a fake page of a well-known courier service (usually a fake DHL page) with clear instructions that you, as the seller, need to enter your card number so that they can allegedly send you the money.

If you have received such a message, it should be 100% clear to you that this is a scam, and you should immediately stop communicating with that user. As a seller, you will never need to enter your card number - for the buyer to send you money, it is enough for you to provide your bank account number or IBAN.

A few tips for safe trading:

● When buying, do not send money in advance - use a courier service and pay cash on delivery.

● Never share your personal information or your card numbers. The buyer does not need any of this information in order to pay you for the product you are selling.

● Walk away from a purchase if the seller avoids personal contact, payment via bank account, or cash on delivery.

● If the price is unrealistically low, carefully check the item or the seller.

● If a customer sends you a link to a page where you are asked to enter your details, do not open that link - it may be a scam aimed at collecting your personal data.

Please note that our portal has no involvement whatsoever in the items being sold, and that sales take place EXCLUSIVELY through direct contact between the buyer and the seller.
